I’m chairing a panel on cookbooks and gender with panelists Charlotte Druckman, Priscilla Ferguson, and Barbara Haber. The idea of this panel came out of studying 19th century Hapsburg Empire cookbooks, especially the way they explained to women what was and what was not appropriate as accompaniments for afternoon coffee/tea.
